Nina Campbell | Maude Check

Maude Check is a printed cotton check with the character of a small-scale ikat, the edges of each square softened and feathered as though the pattern had been dyed into the yarn before weaving. It was drawn to echo the colours of Barbary Toile, and the two make natural companions, the check giving the toile a steadying counterpoint.

It is printed in the United Kingdom on pure cotton, 140 centimetres wide, with the crisp, dry face of a good cotton print.

A Martindale rating of 35,000 rubs makes it genuinely useful, everyday chairs, stools and cushions, as well as curtains and blinds, where a soft-edged check reads as friendly rather than formal.
