Mourlot is a tonal geometric reminiscent of rickrack braid, the zig-zag bands laid in close tonal steps so the pattern reads as texture and rhythm rather than contrast. It is named after the Paris print works where Matisse worked as a graphic artist, a fitting home for a pattern built from a printer's economy of means.
