Nemours embroiders a free-flowing floral trail across a linen ground, the stems wandering with the unhurried ease that belongs to crewelwork, every flower raised slightly from the cloth. It takes its name from the town in the Île-de-France with its twelfth-century château, and carries a similar unforced Frenchness.

Worked in India on a ground of linen with viscose and polyester stitching, woven at 136 centimetres, it is best kept where embroidery thrives, full-length curtains, cushions, headboards, an occasional chair out of hard service. The trailing repeat rewards generous drops that let the line keep travelling.
