Odile is a stripe with a floral conscience: narrow stripes overlaid with an undulating trail of buds alternate with wider, ribbon-like bands of leafy sprigs, so it reads as a stripe from a distance and a delicate botanical up close. It is the most versatile design in the Dauphine collection and the one we reach for when a room needs pattern that will not compete with anything else.

It is printed in the United Kingdom on 100 per cent cotton, 140 centimetres wide, with a small 5.5 centimetre vertical and 15 centimetre horizontal repeat that makes it economical to use and easy to match on cushions and small chairs. At 230 grams per square metre and 50,000 rubs it is a proper dual-purpose cloth, equally suited to curtains, blinds, cushions and upholstery, and it complies with BS 5852 cigarette.

The four colourways all pair two colours on a pale ground: Duck Egg / Red is the classic; Coral / Eucalyptus is warmer and softer; Ochre / Sage is the most contemporary; Blue / Green the coolest. Because the stripe is fine, Odile can be run vertically for curtains or railroaded across a seat, and it takes a contrast piping well. It has a matching wallpaper in the same four colourways. We like it for a small bedroom, on a pair of slipper chairs, or as a lined Roman blind in a kitchen. Dry clean is recommended. Sold by the half metre, with samples available.

Odile is one of the few fabrics that will happily go on the sofa, the chairs and at the window in the same room without the scheme becoming heavy, provided the walls are kept plain or papered in the matching Odile wallpaper. It is also a good choice for a caravan-style bed hanging or a simple gathered valance.
