Orford scatters spots of cut and uncut velvet across a textured waffle ground, the markings loosely animal in character without ever settling into one creature or another. The two pile heights give the pattern real depth; each spot stands proud, catching light differently from its neighbour.
Woven in India from viscose, polyester and cotton at 137 centimetres, it is a substantial velvet with a rub test of 30,000, sound for everyday upholstery, an armchair, a stool, dining seats, and it makes cushions with genuine presence. Small pieces are where it earns its place: a spotted footstool or a pair of occasional chairs brings texture to a scheme without a large commitment.
