Parvani takes its lead from a hand-blocked nineteenth-century Indian wall hanging, a meandering design of peacocks, flowers and paisley shapes that wanders across the cloth with the freedom of its source. The peacocks give it incident; the paisley gives it continuity.
It is printed in the United Kingdom on a linen-cotton twill, 51 per cent linen and 49 per cent cotton, 145 centimetres wide at 285 grams per square metre, the twill lending body and a fine diagonal grain.
With a Martindale rating of 35,000 rubs it handles everyday upholstery confidently, and it makes richly storied curtains and blinds.
