Nina Campbell | Pavilion Garden

Pavilion Garden is a scene of sari-clad ladies at ease in a garden laden with blossom, printed on pure linen. It is a figurative design in the storytelling tradition, the figures and flowering trees composing themselves into vignettes across the cloth, and the drawing keeps a lightness that stops the scene from ever becoming a costume drama.

It is printed in Austria on 100 per cent linen, a generous 148 centimetres wide, the dry linen ground suiting the delicacy of the drawing.

A pictorial print of this kind is happiest at the window and on smaller pieces, curtains and blinds where the scene unfolds at length, cushions, headboards and occasional chairs rather than hard-working seating.
