Ponchielli is a self-coloured floral and leaf trail with a softly crumbling edge, set on squares that resemble precious metal leaf, so the wall reads as gilded panels aged into gentleness, with the trail wandering across them. It is named after Amilcare Ponchielli, the Italian composer of the ballet Clarina and the opera La Gioconda.
It is made in the United Kingdom. The metal-leaf ground gives it a soft luminosity that flat papers cannot manage, at its best in dining rooms, halls, bedrooms and rooms lit by lamps in the evening, where the squares glow quietly behind the trail.
