Sarangi is woven in richly textured chenille, the yarns forming a ribbon of squares that runs across the cloth with the rhythm of an inlaid border. It is pattern expressed through texture rather than print, which gives it unusual depth in changing light.
Woven in Italy at 130 centimetres, the blend of viscose, linen and cotton makes a deep, substantial cloth of 750 grams per square metre with a soft pile. A Martindale result of 55,000 rubs makes it well suited to general domestic upholstery — sofas, chairs and stools — as well as cushions, where the chenille surface asks to be touched.
