Somerhill recreates a large-scale trailing floral from an archive block-printed chintz, sprays of rhododendron and azalea preserved with the charm of the original document. The signature overprints of block printing are cleverly interpreted, so the design keeps the layered, slightly inexact beauty of the early cloth.
Printed in the United Kingdom on pure linen at 140 centimetres, it has a dry, natural handle that suits the age of the design. A rub test of 18,000 points it towards curtains, blinds, cushions and occasional chairs, the places an English floral has always lived.
