Nina Campbell | Upton

Upton is a satin stripe woven in pure silk, the alternating bands of matt and lustre giving the cloth a quiet glamour that shifts as the light moves across it. The stripe is crisply drawn, in the tailored tradition of English decorating rather than anything showy.

Woven in India at 138 centimetres wide, the silk has the dry, fine handle and natural sheen that no man-made fibre quite matches. As a delicate natural fibre it is best reserved for curtains, blinds and light decorative use, where it hangs beautifully and brings a sense of occasion to a room without raising its voice.
