Verve is a semi-plain built from lines that gather into a ripple, so the surface has a current running through it, movement without motif. The name is borrowed from the art magazine that published Matisse's famous cut-outs, and there is something of that economy in the design, a single gesture repeated until it becomes a texture.
It is woven in Italy from viscose and cotton with linen and polyester, 145 centimetres wide and substantial at 690 grams per square metre.
With a Martindale figure of 75,000 rubs it is among the most durable cloths in the collection, entirely happy on family sofas and hard-worked chairs, and its rippled surface gives large upholstered pieces life without pattern.
