Nina Campbell | Wisteria Walk Wallpaper

Wisteria Walk is a painterly design of climbing wisteria, the racemes drawn with an impressionistic, loose brush so the flowers dissolve into soft drifts of colour rather than reading as botanical illustration. It is the most atmospheric of the Dauphine wallpapers and the one that comes closest to a mural: hung on a full wall it gives the impression of looking out through a pergola in early summer.

It is printed in the United Kingdom on a 52 centimetre wide roll of 9 metres, with a large 66 centimetre repeat set half-drop, which needs to be allowed for when estimating quantities. It carries the European B-s1,d0 fire classification and the American ASTM E-84 Class A rating, and the finish is matt.

Three colourways: Aqua / Green is the freshest and closest to the natural plant; Lilac / Green is the most faithful to wisteria in bloom and the most romantic; Stone / White / Green is the quiet, tonal option, all soft greys and greens, and the one we reach for in a contemporary house where the drawing is wanted without much colour. This is a paper for a bedroom, a bathroom with a good ceiling height, or a dining room where it can be hung on every wall and the furniture kept simple. Because the pattern is loose and the ground pale, it is more forgiving on an uneven old wall than a crisp geometric would be. Sold by the roll; a sample is strongly recommended so you can see the brushwork at full size.

Wisteria Walk is best hung so that a full drift of flowers sits at eye level on the principal wall; we would plan the drops from there rather than from a corner. It is a paper that repays a little care in setting out, and it is one of the few in the collection that can carry a room on its own.
