Zitan is a semi-plain ottoman woven with chenille to create the texture of wood grain, the yarns tracing irregular figured lines across the ribbed ground. It behaves as a plain in a scheme, but there is movement in the surface, the way grain moves through a well-chosen board.
Woven in Italy at 140 centimetres, predominantly cotton with viscose and linen, it has a firm, tactile handle. A rub test of 38,000 makes it a dependable upholstery cloth, sofas, armchairs and stools, and a quiet foil to Nina Campbell's more decorative patterns.
