Ariani combines a small-scale trellis with a velvet spot overlaid by a multi-coloured print, three layers of pattern-making held in one disciplined cloth. The trellis orders the surface, the spot lifts it into relief, and the print keeps it alive at close range.

Made in Germany from polyester and viscose with a little linen at 496 grams per metre, it has the soft surface interest of a patterned velvet. A rub test of 45,000 clears the mark for serious upholstery service, suiting chairs, stools and ottomans in regular use, and the generous 145cm width also makes cushions, blinds and curtains.
