Bukhara is a vertical stripe composed of brightly coloured fine lines and small blocks set on contrasting grounds, a pattern with the rhythm of woven tribal cloth, ordered but never mechanical. It is named after the former Persian-speaking city on the Silk Route, in modern-day Uzbekistan.
The weave is jute and cotton, 60 and 40 per cent, on a 138cm width at a substantial 87gsm, the jute giving it a dry, robust, naturally textured hand. A rub result of 61,000 makes it a genuinely hard-wearing cloth, comfortable on sofas, benches and chairs in daily use as well as on curtains and blinds.
