Listowel is a check at large scale with the character of a blanket about it, the pattern generous and soft-edged rather than sharply ruled. It is named after the market town and castle in County Kerry.
The cloth is woven in France from cotton with viscose, 82 and 18 per cent, on a 138cm width at a substantial 89gsm. A Martindale result of 61,000 makes it a genuinely hard-wearing cloth, comfortable on sofas and chairs in daily use, and the blanket-like scale of the check comes into its own on larger pieces and full-length curtains.
