Meru is an embossed velvet with an elephant-hide design, the pile pressed into the creased, wandering lines of the animal's skin. The effect is all texture: from a distance a rich plain, up close a landscape of folds that catch and release the light.
Woven in China entirely from polyester at 387 grams per metre, it has a soft, supple handle and carries a stain-resistant finish. A rub test of 40,000 clears the mark for serious upholstery service, so it works confidently on sofas, chairs and stools in daily use, with the 143cm width also cutting for cushions, headboards and curtains.
