Operetta sets intricately patterned stripes, woven to resemble braids, on contrasting plain grounds, so the cloth has the character of ribbonwork laid in ordered bands, each stripe rewarding attention with its own small pattern.
Woven in India from viscose and cotton, it is 137 centimetres wide and 73.9gsm. With a rub test result of 30,000 it is best used decoratively, on curtains, blinds, cushions and occasional chairs, where the braided stripes can run their length uninterrupted and the detail invites a closer look.
