Paillons is a holographic foil reminiscent of gemstones, and its name explains the idea: paillons are the small pieces of foil placed under enamel to create a glow, a technique beloved of jewellers in the Arts and Crafts movement. The paper works the same way, light rising through the surface rather than sitting on it.
