Sonata is a herringbone weave scattered with dots of coloured chenille, the classic twill broken by soft raised points that sit on the surface like stitches. The herringbone gives order; the chenille dots give warmth and a little wit, so the cloth reads as tailored without being austere.
Woven in Turkey from a blend of viscose, wool, cotton and linen with other yarns at 521 grams per metre, it has a dry, woolly handle with softness in the dots. A rub test of 35,000 suits it to domestic upholstery, sofas, chairs and stools in daily use, and the 140cm width also serves curtains and cushions.
