Tarkashi is an all-over filigree woven in relief, the fine scrolling line raised from the ground so the pattern is read by touch and shadow as much as by eye. The name refers to a type of antique Indian silver filigree, and the pattern keeps that wrought fineness.
It is woven in Turkey from viscose with polyester and cotton, 65, 25 and 10 per cent, on a 136cm width at around 89gsm. A rub result of 52,000 puts it into serious upholstery service, chairs, sofas and stools in daily use, and the relief surface gives curtains and cushions a quiet dimensionality.
