Alamu is a ciselé velvet in linen and cotton — a demanding technique in which the pattern is carved from the pile itself. Here it revisits an ethnic motif in a modern, graphic spirit, the design emerging in relief rather than in contrast. The linen gives the ground its dry, natural character; the cut pile gives the motif its depth. It is ornament by texture, precise without being cold.
