Arapahos combines print and embroidery on linen in a large pattern drawn from the Native American iconographic repertory of geometric motifs. The ochre register echoes the aridity of the Far West, and the doubling of techniques is what gives the cloth its presence: the printed ground sets the scene, the stitching raises parts of it into relief. A generous, graphic fabric with the landscape of its sources written into it.
