Pierre Frey | Arlequins – Vintage

Arlequins gathers drawings selected from a book entitled 'Toupies' — spinning tops — grouping harlequins created by Jean Lurçat in 1925 and printing them on non-woven paper. For Lurçat the harlequin was the Human of the everyday human comedy: Harlequin General, Harlequin Hamlet, Dancing Harlequin, Harlequin Diplomat, each a role in motley. The paper carries that troupe onto the wall, a modernist's theatre of characters with its wit fully intact.
