Artemide is an embroidery of pastoral scenes — deer and butterflies flitting among wildflowers within an orderly Directoire-style setting, from a period when antique styles were in vogue. The original document is a woodblock-printed wallpaper of the late eighteenth century, preserved in Maison Pierre Frey's archives. Translated into stitch, the scenes gain a relief the printed source never had: a needle's retelling of a two-hundred-year-old idyll.
