Astrakan is a jacquard of remarkable softness that imitates the tight, curled surface of astrakhan. The imitation is affectionate rather than literal: the weave builds the characteristic ripple and density into the cloth itself, giving upholstery the visual richness of the original with the good conscience and durability of a woven textile. A tactile fabric with a sense of occasion, made for being stroked absent-mindedly.
