Banco takes its name and its forms from sub-Saharan architecture in banco — the mixture of clay and straw — playing with the curved volumes characteristic of those constructions. Shapes rise and intertwine into a resolutely contemporary irregular border, and the rug's subtle sculpted effect shows what hand-tufting can do at its best: mass, curve and shadow rendered in pile.
