Pierre Frey | Batik raisin – Vert

Batik Raisin reproduces an early twentieth-century batik — a textile tradition in which wax is applied with a tool called a canting to reserve areas of cloth before dyeing. Originally such batiks were used almost exclusively for clothing and ceremony; here the pattern moves into furnishing with its character intact, the wax-drawn lines keeping their slightly resistant, hand-guided quality. A ceremonial cloth, respectfully re-purposed.
