Bebelle begins in Isabelle de Borchgrave's love of collage: large sheets painted in the desired tones, then torn into shapes and placed one after another with a childlike spontaneity that lets chance strike the right note. Each piece is set down with confidence, without hesitation. A favourite of the Pierre Frey studio, the work has been transcribed onto fabric using an all-over embroidery technique that is particularly artisanal and textured — the torn edges of the paper now travelling in thread.
