Bebelle begins in Isabelle de Borchgrave's love of collage: large sheets painted in the desired shades, torn into shapes and placed one after another with a childlike spontaneity, each piece set down with confidence, chance allowed to strike the right note. A favourite of the studio, the work has been transcribed into hand-tufted carpet, alternating cut and loop pile in New Zealand wool with bright, deep dyes — the torn paper edges now rendered in changes of pile.
