Behanzin Wilton reproduces, in Wilton weaving, the pattern of a Kuba velvet from Congo — a textile so named for its looped raffia threads, themselves a distant reminiscence of the loops found in Italian velvets. The Wilton technique suits the source: pattern and pile built together in the loom, giving the geometry the density it deserves. A great African textile tradition, restated as a rug of real substance.
