Bonsai begins with a stroll down a small lane in the province of Omiya, Japan, visiting gardens and bonsai stands where millenary trees stand out sharp and vivid. The stylised plant motif is both printed and embroidered on a linen canvas, so the ancient trees gain relief as well as image — the needle supplying the gnarled dimensionality the subject demands.
