Pierre Frey | Chardin

Chardin carries a pattern characteristic of the Louis XV style: opulent stylised flowers emphasised by lace effects, the openwork delicacy of the one setting off the fullness of the other. It is the eighteenth century at its most confidently ornamental — flowers dressed, as it were, in their own finery. A period vocabulary rendered with the lightness that keeps such opulence civilised.
