Coloriste is drawn from a pleated painting by Isabelle de Borchgrave — the largest she ever made. Bold blocks of colour, of the kind she used throughout her work, give it strength and reveal her freedom of composition and her instinctive joy. It is hand-tufted in New Zealand wool, with fine tone-on-tone lines of loop worked through the pile to echo the pleats of the original, so the rug records the making of the painting as well as its image.
