Coupole is cork, delicately applied by hand to a foil base — a wallcovering built on the contrast of rough against smooth. The foil glimmers through the cork's natural irregularities, so the material reads differently version by version: here like natural wood, there like a precious jewel. It is matter first and pattern second, and walls dressed in it acquire the warmth of the one and the light of the other.
