Cuilko is an essential design of the Maya collection, taking the cactus — the foundational plant of Latin America — and softening it through combined printing and embroidery. The printed drawing has a watercolour quality that recalls an old master's painting; the embroidery answers with fine viscose for the thorns and soft wool, re-embroidered by hand, for the flowers. A linen ground gives the whole a light fluidity, a delicate drape and a very pleasant hand.
