Dana began as a paper kaftan: Isabelle de Borchgrave's way of turning the textile tradition of Central Asia into living sculpture. The repeated oval framed by vertical lines recalls those ancestral weaves, and the artist's collection of ten kaftans became the subject of a remarkable exhibition. A design this pure asked to return to cloth, and it has, printed on a soft linen that lets the drawing breathe.
