Distressed Damask is an ikat rather than a true damask, multicoloured and worked with silky effects that lift the pattern where the light falls on it. The feathered edges ikat dyeing produces give the design its slightly worn, travelled quality — Pierre Frey offers it as an invitation to the Silk Road, and the reference is earned rather than decorative. It is woven as a jacquard, so the pattern has structure as well as colour.
