Djenne assembles scenery, motifs and borders inspired by nineteenth-century West African dress into one large composition. Hand-tufted, it is enriched by a subtle play of texture, cut pile working against loops of varying heights so the borders and grounds sit at different levels underfoot. A rug conceived like a textile document — layered, deliberate and generous in scale.
