In the Far East the dragon stands for power, wisdom, strength and hidden knowledge, and Dragons de Feu draws on those beliefs with a pattern characteristic of Japonisme — the movement that swept the West in the last third of the nineteenth century, once Japan opened to international trade. Depending on its colouring the mood shifts from commanding to calm; the dragon accommodates both.
