Flamestitch is a superb Hungarian stitch, the zigzag motif characteristic of fashionable textiles under the reign of Louis XIII. Few patterns carry four centuries so lightly: the rising and falling points still read as movement, still organise a chair or a wall with the same confidence. It is historical cloth that has never once needed rescuing.
