Funky Ikat is a jacquard that charmingly reproduces the classicism of the finest eighteenth-century chinés à la branche — the technique whereby the warp is patterned before weaving, leaving each motif with a softly blurred edge. That gentle imprecision is the whole seduction: pattern seen as if through water, and woven, paradoxically, with complete control. The eighteenth century knew what it was doing.
