Pierre Frey | Galigai – Creme

Galigai is a printed version of an early twentieth-century Uzbek ikat preserved in the Le Manach archives. Ikat is among the oldest resist-dyeing methods — the name derives from the Malay-Indonesian mengikat, to tie — the yarn bound and dipped so that, once woven, the protected areas blur into shifting tones. Used historically for curtains and dress, ikats carry that softly interrupted line, and Galigai preserves it faithfully.
