Gaya began in a paint shop in the historic centre of Bangalore, where men leaned over their tables reproducing the shimmering ceremonial costumes of Rajasthan — and where the designer could not resist buying a set of their drawings, from which this print was made. The wall inherits both the costumes and the draughtsmen's patience: ceremony, observed closely and transcribed with affection.
