Gunta is an exercise in balancing textures. The field is a cut velvet in New Zealand wool and botanical silk, flecked throughout, and it is framed by a very short heathered loop in wool and shiny nylon. The frame is what makes it: a low, tight border against a deeper pile, so the rug has a defined edge and two quite different surfaces meeting cleanly.
