Pierre Frey | Hankeou – Kaki

Hankeou reproduces a motif known as The Drapery, printed on cotton by the copper-plate technique around 1795 by the Nantes manufacturer Favre, Petitpierre et Cie. A Chinese figure with a parasol and a bouquet are brought together beneath a swag of drapery, staged rather than simply arranged — a clear illustration of French chinoiserie, in which European and Chinese iconography are freely mixed. It is screen printed by hand.
