Hatchepsout draws inspiration from the decorative programme adorning an ancient Egyptian coffin discovered in the cemetery of Gournet Murraï, dating to the New Kingdom reign of the female pharaoh Hatshepsut. The wallpaper renders a carefully composed tableau featuring a standing woman, a figure in loincloth, the jackal-headed god Anubis and the protective Udjat eye, rendered with the careful formality of pharaonic art. Printed on fibrous woven fabric in generous width, this design references an emblematic object now held within the Louvre's Department of Egyptian Antiquities, bringing the gravitas of ancient ceremonial symbolism to contemporary interiors.
