Hissa takes its inspiration from an old African handicraft rug, developing a set of graphic lines worked in botanical silk velvet at several different heights, against a ground of looped velvet in New Zealand wool. The result is a rug read as much by touch and shadow as by pattern: the varied pile heights throw fine reliefs across the surface, and the contrast between lustrous botanical silk and matt wool keeps the drawing alive from every angle.
