Houni pays tribute to the decorative modernity of Pharaonic Egypt, its pattern drawn directly from the collections of the Swiss Egyptologist Gustave Jequier. The finesse of the small repeating motif is only possible through the ancestral craft of Nepalese hand-knotting, still carried out by hand in Kathmandu. It is a quietly scholarly rug: the reference is ancient, the making traditional, and the effect surprisingly contemporary, a fine, even rhythm across the floor that reads as texture until studied.
